His research interests include mechanical ventilation in acute brain and spinal cord injuries, and he is the co-Principal Investigator of an ONF-RHI funded study to evaluate the use of NAVA ventilation in acute cervical spinal cord injury. He has been involved in provincial organizations, such as Trillium Gift of Life Network as a director for ten years, and is a recognized expert in the neurological determination of death and organ donation. Boyd was born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario where he received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Lakehead University.

That was followed by his PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Alberta, where he studied the role of growth factors in peripheral nerve regeneration. He stayed in Kingston to do his undergraduate degree in Medicine, which was followed by his residency in Neurology and fellowship in Adult Critical Care.

His research interests are focused on the neurological consequences of critical illness, cardiac surgery, and kidney disease. Gretchen M. She is an investigator for the National Institutes of Health, U. Department of Defense and industry-funded studies. An invited speaker at national and international conferences, she publishes in the area of neurocritical care.

She is cross appointed to the Division of Obstetrical Medicine. She completed her M. Her clinical and research interests lies in advancing the care of epilepsy, particular in young adults and women of childbearing age. She has a special interest in the management of women with epilepsy and epilepsy in pregnancy and has established highly focused epilepsy in pregnancy clinic, seeing women across the GTA and Ontario.

As a clinician teacher, Dr. Bui is involved in teaching a wide spectrum of learners including undergraduate medical students, clinical clerks, residents and fellows. Her interest in teaching extends to curriculum development and creating novel tools using technology to teach epilepsy and electroencephalography EEG. His clinical and academic interests include neurocritical care and point-of-care ultrasound in acute care medicine, with a focus on the clinical utility of ultrasound in critical care medicine and optimal teaching strategies for its competency achievement.

Alberto loves travelling for teaching; he has already taught ultrasound and neurocritical care in five different continents. Outside of work, Alberto has a passion for creating logos and drawings using his computer; the IDCCM logo is one of his creations. His clinical and academics areas of interest include neurocritical care of patients with traumatic brain injury and hypoxemic ischemic brain injury following cardiac arrest.
